Tears for Fears

A dupla formada por Roland Orzabal e Curt Smith produziu alguns dos hits mais sofisticados do pop/rock dos anos 1980. Os dois amigos de infância formaram o Tears for Fears em 1981 em Bath, na Inglaterra. Antes, ambos foram integrantes de uma banda chamada Graduate.

Tendo Orzabal como principal compositor, o Tears for Fears lançou em 1983 o seu álbum de estréia, 'The Hurting'. O disco, inspirado nas teorias do psicoterapeuta americano Arthur Janov (mais conhecido pela teoria do Grito Primal) e mais direcionado ao synth pop, reune os três primeiros singles do grupo: "Mad World", "Change" e "Pale Shelter".

'The Hurting' fez bastante sucesso no Reino Unido. Porém, foi 'Songs from the Big Chair' (1985) que deu fama mundial ao grupo. É desse segundo álbum do Tears for Fears as músicas "Everybody Wants to Rule the World", "Head Over Heels" e "Shout", que se tornaram alguns dos hits mais marcantes da música pop dos anos 1980.

O grande sucesso de 'Songs From The Big Chair' fez a banda se dedicar à uma longa turnê mundial, demorando a lançar um novo álbum, que somente saiu em 1989, o também bem sucedido 'The Seeds Of Love'. "Woman in Chains", "Sowing the Seeds of Love" e "Advice for the Young at Heart" foram os hits radiofônicos de 'The Seeds Of Love'.

Em 1991, Curt Smith saiu do grupo, devido à conflitos com Roland Orzabal, e seguiu carreira solo. Orzabal prosseguiu com Tears for Fears, lançando dois álbuns: 'Elemental' (1993) e 'Raoul and the Kings of Spain' (1995). Porém, sem repetir o sucesso alcançado com os três primeiros discos.

No início dos anos 2000, Orzabal e Smith voltaram a trabalhar juntos, criando novas músicas para o álbum 'Everybody Loves a Happy Ending' (2004) .
