The Railway Children

The Railway Children é uma banda de rock alternativo formada em 1984 em Wigan, Inglaterra por Gary Newby, Brian Bateman, Guy Keegan e Stephen Hull.

Seu primeiro álbum Reunion Wilderness de 1987 saiu pela Factory Records, que liderou a parada independente do Reino Unido junto com seu segundo single, "Brighter". Logo deixariam a Factory e assinaram com a Virgin Records .

No ano seguinte, a banda lançou seu segundo álbum, Recurrence, com pouco sucesso comercial. Em 1990, eles lançaram o Native Place , um álbum que incorporou alguns elementos das tendências atuais da música de clube na Inglaterra na época. "Every Beat of the Heart" tornou-se um sucesso no Top 40 no Reino Unido com um pico na # 24, e a música se tornou o # 1 hit no recém-fundado Modern Rock Tracks nos EUA.

Em 1992, a EMI assumiu a Virgin Records e a banda deixou o selo. Dois anos depois, o line-up original acabou, deixando Newby para continuar sozinho. Newby já lançou dois álbuns como The Railway Children: "Dream Arcade" (1997 Ether Records) e Gentle Sound (2002 Ether Records), bem como um álbum "Rarities" em 2007, disponível apenas para download em seu site oficial: www.railwaychildren.co.uk
